So far it is unclear whether it is descendants of the rural or urban Franconian line. The fact that the progenitor is a bricklayer from Bamberg and later leather-working artisan appears to be the case

more likely. Leather workers are often found there, too, while the rural workers tend to work as farmers, millers or bakers.
Progenitors
Johann Lorber, bricklayer in Bamberg and his wife Dorothea, parents of Johann, who was baptized in the Upper Parish in 1651 and mentioned in Gaustadt from 1672.
Career
The Lorbers initially lived as old makers (patch cobblers) at the Jungfernbrunnen in Gaustadt. Later there are descendants as cobblers or old makers in Unteraurach, Stegaurach and on Bamberg's Kaulberg and in the sand area. Their traces run in the 18th and 19th centuries. The last known male Lorber died in 1828 in Stegaurach house 9 (today Kirchgasse 4).

- Johann Thomas Lorber (born 1737 in Bamberg am Kaulberg), until 1768 as an old man in the sand, 2 daughters, 2 sons Johann Sebastian and Johann Leonard. The traces of the family run afterwards.
- Johann Lorber (1752 in Gaustadt - 1828 in Stegaurach 9), shoemaker in Stegaurach, last known male Lorber of the line, father of 6 daughters and 2 sons who died as children
